NORBERG MEMORIAL HOME CELEBRATES 120 YEARS IN BUSINESS! Norberg Memorial Home Inc. & Monuments is honored to be celebrating their 120th Anniversary in 2023. E. A. Vaughan initially owned and operated a bookstore in Princeton, selling it to open a business of cabinet making and picture framing. His works can be found throughout the country. Selling his business in 1900 he went to Syracuse, NY. Returning eight months later, he established an undertaking and music store business, at 535 S. Main St. Vaughan became certified in 1903, Norberg would buy out Vaughan in 1922, due to a lingering illness. Mr. Vaughan passed away in 1928 and is buried at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton. Norberg would relocate to 120 S. Vernon St in Princeton, a home previously owned by the late Miss Emma Carlson. Arthur would later change the name to Norberg Memorial Home. He hired Bodie Smallwood in 1955 after he returned from the Korean War. Bodie graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1956. He became partner in 1966 and sole owner in 2003. He and Bonnie raised their four children; Michael, Patricia, JD and Terry in Princeton. VAUGHN Segerste TO ART NORBORG) JD attended Illinois College, where he would play baseball and basketball. While working odd jobs, he spoke with Bodie about going to mortuary school. In true Bodie fashion, he told his son "you're paying for it yourself" and JD did just that! He went on to live and work at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral and Crematorium in Kokomo, Indiana while still attending college. His clinical work at the Cook County Morgue took place during the July 1995 heatwave of Chicago, which killed more than 700 people in a 5-day period. Graduating in 1996 from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois, JD then started working at Norberg's. He became partner in 2003 and purchased Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments in 2008. Bodie would pass that very same year. JD and Janice, his Skate-A-Rama sweetheart and wife of 7 years, run Norberg's together, along with the employee of the month, every month, Joey Rainford. Joey has worked for Norberg's since 2019 and is considered their favorite employee and a valued asset to their beloved family owned and operated business.
